This is part of a new congestion-busting initiative that also includes bus lanes that have been added to the city centre. The campaign Live Life In The Bus Lane is being pushed by the City of York

Transport officer Linda Capel of the City of York, who is in charge of the campaign said: “This is an important step in backing bus travel in the city. The idea is to open people’s eyes about the many benefits of using the buses.

“The time they spend sitting in traffic could be spent much more productively on the bus. This is the first time the council has done this type of campaign and we hope it will be a success.”

People who used the buses in York were asked what are the benefits of using public transport. Some stated that they spent “their time reading the newspaper, texting or catching up on quality time with friends and family. Others spent their time Juggling, doing homework and finishing of work.

Posters for the advertising campaign are displayed on the buses and Radio advertising is also been used to reach the motorists.

New bus lanes and bus priority measures have been introduced in Fulford rd and has received approval form the public after they were consulted over the new traffic improvement measures.
