Leeds United in Breach Confidentiality Claims

The hearing for Leeds United challenge against the 15-point penalty started on Wednesday 23rd April. Final submissions were due from both Leeds United and the Football League on Monday the 28th April.

However during the proceeding concerns were raised about a letter that states the argument that Leeds United planned to present to the arbitration panel.

Leeds United have refused to comment on the allegation of breaking the Football Association rules on confidentiality.

The report relates to the fact that the letter purports about their arbitration hearing against their 15-point penalty.

The report stipulates that the letter in question may be in breach of the Football Association Rule K6.

The letter was sent to other football clubs in March by Leeds United Chief Executive Shaun Harvey, which has now bought the hearing to a halt.

However Leeds United have stated the argument was already publicly known before the letter was sent.

As the argument had been submitted to the High Court of Justice in February, so it was already in the public domain.

Sir Philip Otton who is the chairman of the tribunal panel was considering Leeds United challenge against the 15-point penalty when the claim of a confidentiality breach was put forward and the proceedings were stopped.

The delay in the decision from the panel has led to Swansea City not being presented with the League One title.

They expected to be presented with the title after their final home game against Leyton Orient on Saturday May 3rd.

The panel will return with a decision on the confidentiality breach by May 1st, which is two days before the last weekend of the season.

They will decide whether Shaun Harvey was in breach of the FA rules with the contents of the letter.
